How we’re collecting resident data to improve our services

Local Space recently carried out resident equality data collection with support from a specialist independent market research agency, IFF Research.

A key aim of this survey is to gain a clearer understanding of our residents and their households, so that we can improve the services we provide, making them more efficient, and more accessible. We collected data in line with the protected characteristics as set out in the Equality Act 2010.

The survey was carried out with our residents whose tenancies and repairs are directly managed by Local Space.

Local Space recently took on responsibility for the repairs of more than 700 extra homes. And, whilst the tenancies for this group of customers are managed by London Borough of Newham, we are planning to collect the same set of data to help us shape our services to all of our customer’s needs.

Data was also collected from our employees and compared to data from our residents.

In summary:

  • The majority of our residents and staff are over the age of 30, female and describe their religion as Christian.
  • 32% of our residents are Black / Black British African compared to 30% of our staff.

The full EDI data collection report can be viewed on our website here.

Our next steps

We’ll use the data we’ve collected, along with further resident consultation, to review our current service delivery and look at where we can make improvements. This reflects the requirements of The Regulator of Social Housing Consumer Standards* to ensure that our services reflect the diverse needs of our residents, including the way we provide choices, information, and communications.

This survey will be carried out annually so that we have the most up-to-date information to support our services.
