International Women’s Day – Celebrating women in housing at Local Space

International Women’s Day is an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of women around the world. It’s a great time to raise awareness for women’s inclusion and equality and we hope you’ll be inspired by the women at Local Space.

Kim Humberstone, Finance Director is a working mother with a full-time career and is grateful that Local Space’s hybrid working means that she can strike the right balance between work and home. She said “One of my joys is being able to run into school with my daughter each morning, whilst she

cycles, and being there on an evening to pick her up, without her being the last girl in her after-school club. Local Space also provides me with the flexibility to continue my passion for developing young people through my roles with the Army Cadet Force and Girl Guiding”.

Kim loves that her role enables her to support and develop her colleagues whilst refreshing her own skill set. She goes on to say “my role gives me the opportunity to serve the communities in East London where I work, by making sure that the rental income we receive is spent wisely, making sure our customers get the maximum benefit. By focusing on being investment smart, it allows us to expand our housing portfolio and help more customers each year”.

Claire Naylor, Head of Service Improvement and Customer Voice has been with us since December and finds her role not only one of responsibility but of deep personal fulfilment too. She said “for me, this role signifies an opportunity to make meaningful improvements for our customers. Knowing that I can be part of something that has a positive impact on their lives gives me a sense of satisfaction”.

“Local Space’s understanding and flexible working policies have been helpful in allowing me to pursue my career ambitions without compromising on my family responsibilities. Moreover, the commitment of the organisation to fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment has been vital in empowering me to thrive both personally and professionally. It is this combination of support, flexibility, and shared values that makes my role not just a job, but a deeply rewarding experience”.

Nicola O’Neill, Property Services Manager takes pride in knowing that through her efforts, customers can enjoy a hassle-free living experience. She said: “being a Property Services Manager to me means more than overseeing the operations of our properties. It gives me enormous joy to know I am contributing to creating safe and comfortable living for our customers, ensuring they feel at home. My role involves coordinating maintenance and repair work, handling tenant complaints, and managing relationships with contractors and service providers. But beyond these tasks, it’s the relationships that bring me the most satisfaction”.

“Local Space has been incredibly supportive, and I have yet to encounter another organisation that promotes such a fair and balanced environment. The flexibility they provide not only leads to job satisfaction but also contributes to a robust work-life balance. I feel supported by Local Space in both my personal life and professional accomplishments, and I’m excited about what the future holds”.

Safiah Khan, Service Improvement Lead said: “As the Service Improvement Lead, I use my extensive experience and sector-specific knowledge to drive impactful improvements for our customers. The support from Local Space in supporting my professional growth has been incredible, especially considering their flexibility regarding my parental responsibilities. Their understanding of my role as a working mother to a young child has empowered me to further dedicate myself to our organisational goals”.

“Throughout my journey here, I’ve had three distinct roles, where my accomplishments are a direct reflection of the encouragement provided by Local Space to improve and be the best version of myself. They’ve embedded an environment where I can thrive and make meaningful contributions whilst staying committed to providing supportive and inclusive services”.
